With just two weeks left in the 2017 regular season, football team’s in the C & G Sports coverage area are looking to lock up division titles and playoff spots.
In this week’s edition of Macomb Mashups, we take a look at matchups featuring teams that could seal one or both of those with wins. We start with a huge Catholic High School League Central Division showdown. That’s followed by some big Macomb Area Conference battles.
Novi Detroit Catholic Central (5-2, 2-0 CHSL Central) at Warren De La Salle (5-2, 2-0 CHSL Central) — 7 p.m. Oct. 13 at Wayne State University
This is the final divisional game of the season for both teams. The Pilots and Shamrocks are the above .500 teams in what is viewed by many as the strongest division in the state. The winner locks up a division title and a playoff spot. Catholic Central is after a third straight division title. De La Salle with a win would have its first since 2015. The Shamrocks have taken seven straight in the series. Check back here Friday night for a full recap.
Utica Eisenhower (7-0, 4-0 MAC Red) at Warren Mott (4-3, 1-3 MAC Red) — 7 p.m. Oct. 13
Eisenhower has already punched its ticket to the postseason. A win over Mott would give the Eagles a second straight outright MAC Red title. The Marauders, which are 0-7 all-time against Ike, need the win to keep their playoff hopes alive. A loss doesn’t completely knock Mott out of the playoff race, as it has played a strong enough schedule to be considered if it wins five games. The Marauders made the playoffs in 2014 as a five-win team.
Grosse Pointe North (4-2, 3-1 MAC Blue) at Roseville High (5-2, 4-0 MAC Blue) — 7 p.m. Oct. 13
Roseville has already clinched a share of the MAC Blue title. A win gives the Panthers the division crown outright and cinches their first playoff trip since 2011. Grosse Pointe North needs the win to keep its playoff hopes alive — and to earn a share of the MAC Blue championship. The Norsemen hold an 11-2 series edge.
