Man injured in movie theater attack

STERLING HEIGHTS — One man’s request for silence during a movie turned violent Aug. 24, after the two men he shushed allegedly attacked him.

According to Sterling Heights Police Lt. Robert Henigan, the victim and the two suspects were watching the same movie at the MJR Theatre at 15 Mile Road and Van Dyke Avenue when the altercation occurred around 10:35 p.m.

Henigan said the victim, a 26-year-old St. Clair Shores man, “complained to two other young men that they were making too much noise” during the film. After repeatedly asking them to be quiet, he threatened to summon security, said Henigan.

When the victim headed to the hallway, the two suspects followed him and attacked him, striking him on the head and injuring his eye, he said.

According to Henigan, the victim was treated on the scene and released.

Police are searching for the suspects, who fled on foot following the incident. Both were described as Arabic or Chaldean males. One was in his 20s and was about 5 feet 9 inches tall with brown hair; no detailed description was immediately available for the other suspect, said Henigan.

The suspects were with two females at the theater, he added, but the women were not involved in the assault.

Police obtained surveillance video from MJR in hopes that someone will be able to identify the suspects.

Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Jason Bisdorf at (586) 446-2842.
