BIRMINGHAM — Police are on the lookout for a man suspected of breaking into an office building in the 600 block of South Adams in Birmingham and taking a laptop computer.
Birmingham Detective Ron Halcrow said the suspect gained entry into the locked building on Aug. 21 at approximately 5:56 p.m. after pulling some sort of “small unlocking device” out of his back pocket.
At about 6:09 p.m., the suspect was caught on a security tape leaving the building with a black laptop case over his shoulder, which Halcrow said wasn’t there as he entered the building. The laptop, a Fujitsu Lifebook, is valued at $2,300.
The suspect is described as a darker-skinned black male, approximately 38-45 years old, about 200-220 pounds, with short-cropped black hair. He was last seen wearing orange-yellow dress pants and a white long-sleeved shirt with the cuffs rolled up.
“He is dressed professionally, so that might be how he goes unnoticed, because he looks like he could work there,” Halcrow said.
Over the past 30 days, Halcrow said there have been between six and seven breaking-and-entering offenses at offices and stores in both downtown Birmingham and on South Adams Road.
“This suspect may be the same individual who has broken into other suites and stores,” he said.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Halcrow at (248) 644-1800, ext. 237.
