Man robs bank in middle of afternoon

Suspect gets away with undisclosed amount of cash

MOUNT CLEMENS — A suspect eluded police after robbing Huntington Bank, located at 1 N. Main Street — at the corner of Cass Avenue and N. Main Street — in Mount Clemens at around 12:30 p.m. on July 21.

The suspect got away with an undisclosed amount of money and was last seen heading northbound after walking out of the back entrance of the bank onto Walnut Street. “There was no vehicle seen at the time” by witnesses, said Captain John Roberts with the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office.

According to Roberts, the black male entered the bank, walked up to the teller and informed the individual that a robbery was taking place. Roberts said that the suspect said he had weapons, but that no witnesses or employees ever saw any.

The bank employee handed over some money and the suspect ran out.

“The teller did give him a sum of money which he took in the bag and left the bank,” said Roberts.

Roberts said that the male is described as being between the ages of 40 and 60, as having an average build and as being of average height. At the time of the incident, the suspect was wearing a black baseball cap with an unknown emblem on the front of it, an orange pullover shirt and black pants.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office at (586) 307-9538 or CrimeStoppers at (800) Speak-Up.
